Iowa notice to general contractor

Iowa’s pre-lien notice depends on the job. Commercial: a party furnishing to a subcontractor must give the general contractor a one-time written notice within 30 days of first furnishing; that is the notice this page prepares (Iowa Code § 572.33). General contractors and first-tier subcontractors on commercial work owe no pre-lien notice. Residential: a subcontractor or supplier must instead post a preliminary notice on the state Mechanics’ Notice and Lien Registry; without it there is no lien (Iowa Code § 572.13B). That notice is posted on the Registry, not mailed.
