Michigan notice of furnishing

In Michigan, a subcontractor or supplier who did not contract directly with the owner must serve a Notice of Furnishing on the owner’s designee and the general contractor within 20 days after first furnishing. If it is late, your lien is reduced by whatever the owner paid the contractor, on sworn statements or lien waivers, before receiving your notice (MCL 570.1109). Contractors hired directly by the owner do not need this notice.
