Alabama Lien Release
The Lien You Are Releasing
Pull your stamped copy of the lien — everything on this page is on it. If the details here do not match the instrument on record, the release does not release it, and no one at the counter will catch that for you.
This instrument says the debt is paid.
Ala. Code § 35-11-231 discharges the lien on satisfaction of the debt. Signing it while money is still owed puts a false statement on the public record and gives away the security you filed to protect. If you have been paid part of it, this is not the document you want — talk to a construction attorney about what is.
Where this gets filed: Judge of Probate. The same office the verified statement of lien was filed in — the judge of probate of the county where the property is situated (§ 35-11-216). The statute contemplates satisfaction entered on the MARGIN of the record, so present this at the counter and ask for the marginal entry as well as recording it.
The duty runs only from a WRITTEN demand: a fully paid holder who fails for 30 days after written demand is liable for the injury caused, not less than $200 (§ 35-11-231(b)). Absent a demand there is no deadline.
