MCL 570.1127 discharges the lien on satisfaction of the debt. Signing it while money is still owed puts a false statement on the public record and gives away the security you filed to protect. If you have been paid part of it, this is not the document you want — talk to a construction attorney about what is.

Where this gets filed: Register of Deeds. MCL 570.1127(1) is a DELIVERY obligation — the certificate goes to the owner, lessee or other person making payment, and the statute names no filing office. To clear the record it must then be recorded with the register of deeds for the county where the claim of lien was recorded.

None. § 570.1127 states no deadline and no penalty, and § 570.1115(2)'s duty to provide a full unconditional waiver on full payment sets no time limit either. Analogy to MCL 565.41 (mortgage discharge) is unsettled.
